摘要:: 11518 Background: Multiple cancers have lately called the attention of clinical oncologists involved in breast cancer care. The main reason for the follow-up of a patient with early breast cancer is to prevent complications and/or to detect a second curable primary cancer. The aim of this retrospective study is to describe the clinical features of second and third primary tumors in patients with early breast cancer (EBC) treated and followed at our Institution.,The EBC pts who have developed a second cancer during the last 10 years were included in the present study. Patients with cervix cancer (in situ) and/or skin cancer other than melanoma were excluded. The second cancer was grouped as: "synchronic" when the diagnosis was made within 6 months of the first one and "metachronic" if the time elapsed was superior to it. Third cancers were analyzed as well.,Seventy-two pts with EBC presented a second primary cancer. Second cancer: breast (23), ovarian (9), colon (7), melanoma (5), endometrial (4), lung (4), others (20). The "synchronic" (n=12) and "metachronic" (n=60) groups represented 17% and 83% of the total, respectively. Six women (8%) presented a third primary cancer. Third cancer: breast (4), colon (1), myeloma (1). A total of 27 pts (37%) had direct relatives who also presented oncological diseases, 9 of which had been diagnosed with breast cancer.,1) In this cohort of early breast cancer pts, the most frequent second primary cancer was breast, followed by ovarian, colon and melanoma. 2) Most of the second primary cancers were diagnosed symptomatically (64%) and metachronically (83%). 3) Specific screening is the most important tool for diagnosing synchronic or metachronic colon and skin cancers in this population.
